The Andean Region's geographical area includes the countries of Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela.
The countries within the Andean Region are primarily responsible for the heroin, and the world's cocaine hydrochloride (HCL), cocaine base, and wholesale cocaine HCL distribution. Shipments of multi-ton quantities of cocaine are transported via maritime container shipments, fishing vessels and go fast boats to the U.S. and Europe via Mexico and Central America.
DEA offices in this region aggressively combat methods of operations used by the various regional drug trafficking organizations (DTO) by participating in bilateral investigations and intelligence activities, sponsor and conduct counter-narcotics training as well as engage in foreign liaison.
