Northwest Indiana Man Sentenced to 8 Years for Meth, Cocaine Trafficking
HAMMOND, Ind. - Alfred A. Cooke, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration-Merrillville, Indiana, and M. Scott Proctor, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana, announced that Fernando Porras Jr., 64, of Hammond, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund after pleading guilty to distributing methamphetamine and cocaine.
Porras Jr. was sentenced to 96 months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release.
According to documents in the case, on Jan. 22, 2024, Porras Jr. sold methamphetamine and cocaine at a gas station in Gary, Indiana. He also sold methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine on several occasions in Dolton, Illinois, and Gary, from May 2023 and March 2024. Porras Jr. has a prior conviction for dealing in LSD.
This case was investigated by the DEA and the Lake County Combined Task Force - Indiana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas, with assistance from the DEA’s North Central Laboratory. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Toth.
