Special Agent in Charge

Miles D. Aley was named Deputy Chief of Operations, Oce of Foreign Operations, and assumed this leadership position in October 2025.

Prior to this assignment, Mr. Aley served in several key leadership positions within the North and Central America Division (NCAD), to include as the Acting Special Agent in Charge. His roles also included Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of the Mexico City Country Oces Enforcement Group 2, the NCAD Administrative Unit, as well as the Monterrey, Nuevo Laredo, Matamoros, Guadalajara, Merida, and Nogales Resident Oces. He directed complex investigations in each targeting transnational criminal organizations such as the Sinaloa Cartel and Jalisco Cartel.

In 2021, Mr. Aley was promoted to ASAC of the Kansas City District Oce, part of the St. Louis Division. He oversaw enforcement operations throughout the Western District of Missouri, including leadership of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Strike Forces 1 and 2, the Kansas City Interdiction Task Force, the Jeerson City Post of Duty, a High Intensity Drug Tracking Area (HIDTA) task force in the Kansas City metropolitan area and the Springfield Resident Oce.

Mr. Aley also played a pivotal role as a Sta Coordinator at DEAs Special Operations Division in 2019 where he led high-level international enforcement eorts, particularly focused on Mexico and Central America.

In 2017, Mr. Aley was assigned to the Las Vegas District Oce as a Supervisory Special Agent. There, he led the Clark County Gang Task Force, a HIDTA initiative that combined federal and local law enforcement eorts to combat violent organized crime in Southern Nevada.

From 2013 to 2014, he served at the DEA’s Guatemala City Country Oce where he was promoted to Country Attaché. He managed DEA operations in Guatemala and served as the principal drug advisor to the U.S. Ambassador, significantly advancing bilateral counter-drug collaboration.

Mr. Aley began his DEA career in 2003 with initial assignments in the Seattle Field Division from 2004 to 2009 and the Ponce District Oce in Puerto Rico between 2009 and 2013. Prior to joining the DEA, he served as a police officer with the Auburn, Alabama, Police Department beginning in 1999.

A native of Friday Harbor, Washington, Mr. Aley holds a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University. Throughout his career he has demonstrated unwavering dedication to the DEA’s mission and has earned a reputation for eective leadership in both domestic and international drug enforcement operations.
