Washington, DC- The Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Terrance Cole, has appointed Cindy Marx as the new Special Agent in Charge of the Washington Division. She brings a wealth of experience spanning over 25 years to her role, steering innovative initiatives to bolster the DEA’s investigative and regulatory prowess across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.

Known for her strategic acumen and unwavering commitment to public safety, SAC Marx is making waves in the fight against illegal narcotics. Her focus is on dismantling drug trafficking organizations, especially those linked to Mexico, by employing her extensive expertise in complex investigations, wiretaps, and cutting-edge enforcement strategies.

"Dismantling drug trafficking organizations is not just about enforcement; it’s about safeguarding our communities and protecting American lives," said Cindy Marx, the new Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Washington Division. "My earlier roles have prepared me well for my current mission: addressing the national fentanyl poisoning crisis and reducing violent crime through innovative strategies that genuinely benefit the residents and visitors of the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and Maryland."

SAC Marx’s law enforcement journey began as a Deputy Sheriff in Madison, Wisconsin, before she joined the DEA in 2005. Starting in the Chicago Field Division, she has climbed the ranks, taking on leadership roles in the Los Angeles Field Division, Las Vegas District Office, and even serving as the Deputy Chief of Operations and Special Agent in Charge of the Special Operations Division. Her impressive track record includes overseeing enforcement across 23 domestic offices and leading efforts to disrupt major drug trafficking communications.  SAC Marx also served as the DEA Deputy Director for the Homeland Security Council’s National Coordination Center (NCC).

Returning to the Washington Division, SAC Marx is quite familiar with the office, having previously served as an Assistant Special Agent in Charge.

SAC Marx and her team are committed to fostering strong partnerships with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. By leveraging advanced technology and data analysis, they aim to enhance operational efficiency and further the DEA’s mission to safeguard communities from the threat of illegal drugs.

SAC Marx is a distinguished graduate of Lawrence University in Wisconsin, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology.
