Washington, DC – In August 2025, Christopher C. Goumenis was appointed as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Washington Division, which covers the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV).
SAC Goumenis has a three-decade career in law enforcement, dedicated to tackling violent crime, drug trafficking, and money laundering activities in the United States. Throughout his career, he has shown a steadfast dedication to enhancing community safety by leading efforts to dismantle Transnational Criminal Organizations. His work has made a significant impact on lowering violent crime rates and tackling the urgent problem of drug-related poisoning.
He is committed to identifying and dismantling transnational criminal organizations operating at the local, national, and international levels that are engaged in a range of illegal activities and has a deep understanding of the complex web of drug trafficking and financial crimes, and the many challenges involved in preventing harm to communities.
SAC Goumenis main priority is to protect the American citizens from drug related harm by taking the fight directly to those poisoning our communities. "As a native Virginian, I fully understand the complexities and realities of drug-related crime in our area and have witnessed its impact on our people," stated SAC Goumenis. "We are responsible for protecting the residents of D.C., Virginia, and Maryland, upholding the law, and delivering meaningful results in the fight against drug trafficking and its associated threats. Over the past month, under Administrator Cole's leadership, we have concentrated our efforts on strengthening our relationship with our local, state and federal partners, dismantling criminal networks, disrupting chemical supply chains, targeting illicit finance, building strategic partnerships, and putting our agents in the streets to safeguard our communities. Each engagement and operation showcase the DEA's dedication to collaborative, result-oriented efforts against the violent criminals that hurt our residents and affect their quality of life."
Before joining the DEA, he served with the Radford and Norfolk, Virginia Police Departments. In 2004, he became a Special Agent assigned to the DEA's Miami Division. Throughout his career, he has worked in various offices and held multiple positions within the agency, including roles in the Atlanta Division's Raleigh District Office, DEA Headquarters (HQ) Office of Inspections and Office of Professional Responsibility, and most recently, the Richmond District Office of the Washington Division.
SAC Goumenis was raised in the Hampton Roads area and holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Political Science; a Minor in Sociology; and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice; all from Radford University.
