Two New Orleans DEA Targets Face 40 Years To Life In Heroin Conspiracy
(NEW ORLEANS) - - Terrence Tyler, age 23, and Tarell Stevenson, age 36, both of New Orleans, Louisiana, were charged today in an eight-count indictment by a Federal Grand Jury with distribution of heroin, conspiracy, and related firearms charges.
According to the indictment, Tylerand Stevensonconspired to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin from November 2012 to the present. During the investigation, DEA agents and the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office seized more than five ounces of heroin and arrested six people in connection with the drug ring. The arrests also led to the seizure of two stolen assault rifles, body armor, two handguns, and approximately $11,000 in cash from a residence in Chalmette, LA. The indictment also charges Tyler with possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
With respect to the heroin charges, Tylerfaces a maximum term of imprisonment of 40 years, a fine of $5,000,000, and four years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. If convicted of the firearm charge, Tylerfaces an additional term of imprisonment of five years.
Stevensonfaces a maximum term of imprisonment of life, a fine of $8,000,000, and eight years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Acting Special Agent in Charge Joseph W. Shepherd reminds the public that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendants must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Michael B. Redmann.
