Member Of Marijuana Trafficking Organization Sentenced To Seven Years
TUCSON, AZ - . - Gilbert Thompson, 34, of North Lauderdale, Florida, a native of Jamaica and lawful permanent resident of the United States, was sentenced on December 15, 2011, by U.S. District Judge Raner C. Collins to seven years’ imprisonment for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute marijuana. Thompson pleaded guilty on August 19, 2011.
During the span of the charged conspiracy, Thompson, and other members of this violent drug trafficking organization, distributed over of 6,000 kilograms of marijuana from Tucson to cities in the eastern United States such as Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York City, Atlanta, Jacksonville and Tampa. During the course of the conspiracy, Thompson, acted as a facilitator and stash house operator for the organization, responsible for the receipt and distribution of thousands of pounds of marijuana in the state of Florida.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration Tucson District Office, with the assistance of Immigration Customs Enforcement/Homeland Security Investigations Tucson, Tucson Police Department and the Marana Police Department.
The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorneys James T. Lacey, Anthony E. Maingot and Ryan P. DeJoe, United States Attorney’s Office District of Arizona, Tucson.
