Third Drug Conviction Lands Madison Man In Federal Prison For Ten Years
MADISON, WI. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Duane Thomas, 32, of Madison, Wis., was sentenced Friday, May 13, by U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb to 10 years in prison without parole for possessing crack cocaine with the intent to distribute it. The prison term will be followed by eight years of supervised release. Thomas pleaded guilty to this charge on March 3, 2011. This was Thomas' third drug conviction. He was convicted of delivering cocaine in 1999 and possession with intent to distribute cocaine in 2005. He was on supervision for the 2005 conviction at the time he committed the offense in this case.
The charges against Thomas were the result of an investigation conducted by the Dane County Narcotics and Gang Task Force and Drug Enforcement Administration. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman.
