LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The United States Drug Enforcement Administration today announced that it will be hosting a regional Practitioner Diversion Awareness Conference (PDAC) on March 27, 2019. The PDAC is designed to educate and assist doctors, veterinarians, dentists, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners across the Commonwealth of Kentucky in identifying and preventing drug diversion activity. The conference will be held at the Holiday Inn – University Plaza, 1021 Wilkinson Trace in Bowling Green, Ky.

“It is imperative for healthcare practitioners to know how to recognize the red flags associated with prescription drug diversion and take measures to safeguard their practice,” said C. Martin Redd, Diversion Program Manager for DEA’s Louisville Field Division. “This conference seeks to educate practitioners about such responsibilities,” Redd added.

The one-day conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. There is no registration fee; however, attendees will be responsible for their own transportation, lodging, and meal expenses. Attendees must check in with DEA personnel before the start of the conference. Conference check-in will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Individuals wanting to attend the PDAC must be a DEA-registered doctor, veterinarian, dentist, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner. To register for the PDAC, please visit the DEA Diversion website. Anyone who may encounter problems with the registration link is asked to contact the DEA via e-mail at LouisvilleDiversionOutreach@usdoj.gov.

The diversion of pharmaceutical controlled substances throughout the United States is a growing problem. This diversion stems from various sources. In addition to pharmacy robberies and thefts, pharmaceutical controlled substances are often diverted by way of forged prescriptions, doctor shoppers, or illegitimate prescriptions from rogue practitioners.
