Lawrence man sentenced to 36 months for cocaine trafficking
CONCORD, N.H. – Brian D. Boyle Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s New England Division and United States Attorney Scott W. Murray announced that Jose R. Almonte-Tejeda, 40, formerly of Lawrence, Massachusetts, was sentenced to 36 months in prison for possessing over 500 grams of cocaine with intent to distribute.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on April 27, 2018, the New Hampshire State Police’s Mobile Enforcement Team conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Almonte-Tejeda on I-95 in the area of Hampton Falls, New Hampshire. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 832 grams of cocaine from Almonte-Tejeda’s vehicle. Almonte-Tejeda previously pled guilty on Aug. 23, 2018.
“DEA is committed to bring to justice those that distribute cocaine,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge Brian D. Boyle. “Today’s sentence not only holds Mr. Almonte-Tejeda accountable for his crimes but serves as a warning that DEA and its local, state, and federal law enforcement partners will do everything in our power to keep this drug off the streets of New Hampshire.”
“We are committed to stopping the flow of illegal drugs into New Hampshire,” said U.S. Attorney Murray. “In order to protect the health and safety of our community, we will continue to work closely with New Hampshire State Police, DEA and all of our law enforcement partners to identify and prosecute those who are bringing dangerous drugs into the Granite State.”
The investigation was conducted by the DEA and New Hampshire State Police.
