2003 Ogden 20k Race
MAY 27--Special Agent Mark Simala of Weirton, West Virginia, recently ran the Ogden 20k charity classic, rated as the toughest road race in America. He finished one hour and 22 minutes later, averaging 6:40 per mile, passing 624 other runners, placing fifth in his age group. After the race, S/A Simala was photographed with American running icon Bill Rodgers, "the king of the road" and four-time winner of the Boston and New York Marathons. All monies received went into the fund for the West Virginia State Trooper R.J. Elswick, an eight-year veteran who was critically injured from a gunshot wound to the head while responding to a domestic dispute in October 2002. As a bonus, agent Simala's daughter Taylor (5 years old) tackled the Ogden Tiny Tot race; with 200 little ones running one hundred yards. Taylor ran hard and won a red balloon and a plastic gold medal to the delight of family and friends.
