BALTIMORE, MD. - U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett, sentenced Kambreh Jones, age 35, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, late yesterday to 15 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute heroin.

The sentence was announced by Special Agent in Charge Ava Cooper-Davis of the Drug Enforcement Administration - Washington Field Division; United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III; Colonel Marcus L. Brown, Superintendent of the Maryland State Police; Cecil County State’s Attorney Ellis Rollins; and Baltimore City State’s Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein.

According to Jones’ guilty plea, during a DEA investigation based in Yuma, Arizona, Jones was intercepted on a wiretap heroin discussing and arranging for the delivery of packages containing heroin from Phoenix to fictitious names in Maryland, with Jones being the ultimate recipient. Four packages were intercepted on May 10, 2010, June 2, 2010, June 14, 2010, and July 19, 2010. DEA agents attempted to make a controlled delivery of the June 14, 2010 package and saw Jones at the delivery location waiting for the package. These four packages were determined to contain more than a kilogram of heroin. On July 19, 2010, DEA received information from the Yuma wiretap that couriers from Yuma would be coming in with heroin to deliver to an individual working for Jones. DEA agents followed the couriers to a motel in Linthicum Heights, Maryland, where they checked in. A short time later, the DEA agents saw the individual working for Jones go to the couriers’ room and leave short time later with a black object. The individual was stopped about a block away, and agents recovered approximately 200 grams of heroin. Further investigation revealed that the individual had been picking up about three kilograms of heroin per month for about six months on Jones’ behalf.

At the sentencing hearing Judge Bennett found that Jones conspired to distribute between 10 and 30 kilograms of heroin.
