BALTIMORE, MD. - U.S. District Judge Benson Everett Legg sentenced Eric Griffin, 31, of Baltimore, Maryland, today to more than 12 years in prison, followed by three years of supervisedrelease, for possession with intent to distribute heroin.

The sentence was announced by Special Agent in Charge Ava Cooper-Davis of the Drug Enforcement Administration; United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Baltimore City State’s Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein; and Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III.

According to Griffin’s plea agreement, beginning in March 2009, Baltimore Police Department officers received information from a confidential source that an individual the source knew as “Mush” was trafficking large amounts of heroin in the Baltimore area. The source identified a photograph of Eric (Griffin) as “Mush.”

Investigation revealed that Griffin’s driving privileges had been suspended in Maryland. Based on that information, the police began watching a residence in the 1200 block of Kitmore Avenue in Baltimore, that was connected to Griffin. On July 21, 2009, the police saw Griffin drive a gold colored Buick from that area to the 5400 block of Woodmont Avenue. Police approached Griffin while he was still in the car, and arrested him. A subsequent search of Griffin recovered 10 small bags containing heroin, marijuana and more than $1,000 in cash from his pants pockets. Although Griffin denied any knowledge of or involvement with the residence located on Kitmore Avenue, keys found on Griffin opened the front door of the home.

A search warrant was obtained for the Kitmore Avenue residence and officers recovered a digital scale, crack cocaine and marijuana, and other items used to package drugs for distribution.
