ST. LOUIS - James Shroba, Special Agent in Charge of the St. Louis Division, today announced that Raymond Winbush Sr., 43, of East St. Louis, Illinois, was sentenced to 189 months in federal prison for his role in distributing methamphetamine and cocaine in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Winbush was sentenced for the crimes of possession with intent to deliver, as well as possession of a firearm by a felon, all within the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.

“DEA is committed to protecting our community from the ravages of methamphetamine trafficking and addiction,” Special Agent in Charge James Shroba said. “With our federal, state and local law enforcement partners, we will seek to disrupt and dismantle the groups who are trafficking these drugs, and help to stem the violence that is often associated with these activities.”

Evidence presented during sentencing detailed how Winbush sold meth to a confidential source from Winbush’s residence in East St. Louis on three different occasions in August and September of 2016. Following those transactions, investigators executed a search warrant at Winbush’s residence and seized 845 grams of “ice” (high purity meth), 115 grams of cocaine, and three loaded firearms - one of which was stolen. Winbush was a convicted felon at the time the search warrant was executed at his residence, and was prohibited from possessing firearms.

This investigation was conducted by the St. Clair County Drug Tactical Unit, the Illinois State Police Crime Laboratory, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois prosecuted this investigation.
