Illegal Alien Convicted Of Methamphetamine Distribution In DEA Led Investigation
OMAHA, Neb. - -Darrin Thimmesch, Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge of DEA’s Omaha’s District Office announced today that Javier Martinez, 50, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, received a 72 month prison sentence after having previously pled guilty to the charge of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. The sentence handed down today is the result of a guilty plea entered by Martinez back in March of this year.
DEA Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge Thimmesch was quoted as saying “The sentence handed down today is an example of multi-state and multi-jurisdictional law enforcement officers working together to rid our communities of this poison known as methamphetamine, as well as riding our communities of the criminals who distribute those drugs.”
In pleading guilty Martinez admitted his involvement in a conspiracy that distributed at least 1,500 grams of (pure) methamphetamine from 2015 through September 2016 in Minnesota and Iowa. Martinez also admitted to purchasing about 4-12 grams of methamphetamine 3 to 4 times per week for about one year from other criminal associates involved in this case for re-distribution.
Martinez was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard Strand, and is currently in the custody of the United States Marshal Service awaiting transfer to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
This case was investigated as part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task (OCDETF) program of the United States Department of Justice through a cooperative effort of the DEA; Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement; Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension; South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation; Buffalo Ridge Task Force; and the Internal Revenue Service.
