Twenty Years In Prison For Carbondale Man Convicted In Drug Ring
EAST ST. LOUIS, IL - Stephen R. Wigginton, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced that on May 12, 2011, a Carbondale man was sentenced in United States District Court on a two count superseding indictment charging Conspiracy to Distribute Heroin and Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine and Crack Cocaine.
Terrance P. Martin, a/k/a “T,” 48, of Carbondale, Ill. was sentenced to 240 months’ imprisonment, 10 years’ supervised release, and was fined $400. The heroin conspiracy took place between March, 2009, and October 2, 2009, in Jackson County. The cocaine and crack cocaine conspiracy took place between 2007, and October 2, 2009, in Jackson County.
Evidence at Martin’s guilty plea and sentencing hearings established that Martin, codefendant Deandre D. Brown, and others were distributing heroin, crack cocaine, and cocaine from Martin’s residence at The Crossings trailer park in Carbondale. On October 1, 2009, Martin sold heroin to a confidential source working for law enforcement. When agents from the Jackson County Project Safe Neighborhoods Task Force executed a search warrant at Martin’s residence, on October 2, 2009, agents seized heroin, crack cocaine, cocaine, digital scales, multiple firearms, and United States currency. Martin received sentencing enhancements based on a prior felony drug conviction and because firearms were possessed during the drug conspiracies. Co-defendant Brown has pled guilty to his involvement in the drug conspiracies and is scheduled for sentencing on July 7, 2011.
The investigation was conducted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Murphysboro Police Department, and Drug Enforcement Administration. The investigation was conducted as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods DRAGUN Team Initiative, a cooperative effort of local, state, and federal law enforcement, and state and federal prosecuting authorities, aimed at ridding communities of illegal drugs and guns. The Jackson County States Attorney’s Office, Union County Sheriff’s Office and Carbondale Police Department also assisted during the investigation.
