SACRAMENTO, CA- - Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent in Charge and United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced that Sakander Sultan Amin, 27, of Tracy, pleaded guilty yesterday to conspiring to distribute six kilograms of cocaine.

According to court documents, on February 1, 2010, detectives in San Bernardino arrested Sakander Amin and co-defendant Sohail Mohammed Amin, 27, of Dublin, California in a hotel room while the defendants were in the process of brokering a six-kilo cocaine deal between a Canadian-based drug trafficker and a Los Angeles-based source of supply. In the room, the detectives found $129,000 in cash spread on a bed, and they also seized a 66-pound Canadian-bound shipment of methamphetamine. According to court documents, the defendants were part of a conspiracy that moved narcotics from the Los Angeles area through the Eastern District of California to Canada.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the IRS-Criminal Investigation, the FBI, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, and the Fremont Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Michael M. Beckwith is prosecuting the case.

Sakander Amin is scheduled to be sentenced before United States District Judge Morrison C. England Jr. on January 5, 2012. He faces a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life in prison, a term of supervised release from five years to life, and a $10 million fine. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory sentencing factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.

Charges are pending against Sohail Mohammed Amin. His next court date is November 10, 2011. The charges against him are only allegations and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
