SAN DIEGO - DEA, with the assistance of the Chula Vista Police Department and San Diego County HazMat, conducted a search warrant at 754 Broadway, Apartment 23, Chula Vista, CA.  There was no one present in the residence at the time authorities entered and there have been no arrests at this time.  Inside the residence, DEA agents seized a large quantity of methamphetamine and methamphetamine in solution or “liquid methamphetamine”.  It is estimated that the amount of the methamphetamine seized is in excess of 100 pounds.  This investigation is ongoing. 

Mexican drug trafficking organizations smuggle methamphetamine in solution “liquid methamphetamine” into the United States in order to escape detection.  Once in the United States, the “liquid methamphetamine” is then converted to methamphetamine.  Once at a clandestine destination, the “liquid methamphetamine” is dried out.  The traffickers will then wash the dried methamphetamine with acetone and water to slowly evaporate the liquid resulting in crystals.  These crystals resemble big (like ice or glass) which are desirable to methamphetamine users.  The converted liquid methamphetamine is then ready for sale.
