Reading Man Sentenced To 66 Months In Prison For Role In Monroe County-Based Drug Conspiracy
READING, Penn. - The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that a 30-year-old Reading, Pennsylvania man was sentenced to 66 months in prison yesterday by U.S. District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani in Scranton, for participating in a conspiracy to distribute heroin, cocaine, and other drugs in the Monroe-Berks County area of Pennsylvania.
According to United States Attorney Peter Smith, the defendant, Luis Linarez , previously pleaded guilty to conspiring with others between 2010 and 2013, to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine, more than 100 grams of heroin, and (oxycodone).
Linarez was indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2013, as a result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, investigators from the Department of Homeland Security, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, and Berks County Detectives.
Judge Mariani also ordered Linarez to serve four years on supervised release following his prison sentence. Linarez must also pay a $100 special assessment. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
