New Jersey Man Sentenced To 77 Months In Prison For Conspiring To Distribute Oxycodone Illegally Obtained During Multiple Trips To Florida
CAMDEN, N.J. - John G. McCabe, Jr., the Acting Special Agent in Charge of the New Jersey Division of the Drug Enforcement (DEA) and Paul J. Fishman , the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, announced that a Ventnor, N.J., man was sentenced today to 77 months in federal prison for traveling to Florida on multiple occasions to illegally obtain oxycodone for distribution.
Thomas Kilcourse, 51, previously pleaded guilty to an Information charging him with conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute oxycodone. He entered his guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Renée Marie Bumb, who also imposed the sentence today in federal court in Camden.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court: Kilcourse was stopped at Atlantic City International Airport on April 17, 2009, following a flight from Florida, and was found to be in possession of 193 OxyContin, 156 Endocet, and 24 other pills. Kilcourse admitted that he and others traveled to Florida to see various doctors and complain of pain. The doctors wrote prescriptions for Oxycodone pills such as Roxicodone, Percocet, and Oxycontin - which Kilcourse and his co-conspirators filled while in Florida. Kilcourse admitted that he and his co-conspirators then traveled back to New Jersey where they would distribute a portion of the pills. Kilcourse would also take some of the pills himself. The investigation revealed that the conspirators obtained more than 3,000 Oxycodone pills through this method.
Kilcourse admitted that he did not have a license permitting him to distribute oxycodone or any controlled substance.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Bumb sentenced Kilcourse to three years of supervised release.
U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Atlantic City Resident Office and diversion investigators of the DEA’s Camden Diversion Group, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge John G. McCabe, Jr. in Newark; the Margate Police Department, Egg Harbor Township Police Department, and the New Jersey State Police for the investigation leading to today’s sentence.
The Federal government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney R. Stephen Stigall of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Camden.
