Daytona Man Convicted Of Federal Drug Offense
ORLANDO, Fla. - Senior U.S. District Judge Gregory A. Presnell yesterday found Fortune Tyrone (33, Daytona Beach) guilty of possessing with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base, commonly known as “crack” cocaine. He faces a minimum mandatory penalty of five years, up to a maximum of 40 years in federal prison. Hill was indicted on July 30, 2014, and a sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 12, 2015.
According to court documents and evidence presented during the bench trial, on May 20, 2014, officers from the Daytona Beach Police Department responded to an apartment complex after an individual called 911 and reported that her vehicle license tag had been stolen. When officers arrived at the complex, Hill attempted to flee and struck one of the officers. He was eventually arrested. Plastic bags containing a total of more than 100 grams of “crack” cocaine, two digital scales, and $1,020 were recovered during a search of Hill. Officers also recovered an additional $1,630 from Hill’s rental car.
This investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Daytona Beach Police Department. It is being prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida
