HOUSTON - Edmundo Reyes, 34, of Spring, TX has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, announced Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent in Charge Joseph M. Arabit, Houston Division and U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson. Reyes aka Mundo or Bossman pleaded guilty July 7, 2014.

Today, U.S. District Judge Sim Lake ordered Reyes to serve a total of 360 months in federal prison to be immediately followed by five years of supervised release. In handing down the sentence, the court determined Reyes was responsible for the trafficking of more than 19 kilograms of methamphetamine, including a very pure form known as “ICE,” which had been imported from Mexico.

The Judge noted that Reyes possessed firearms, lead a large-scale drug operation and benefited financially from the sale of narcotics. Judge Lake commented that his sentence should serve to deter Reyes and others who sought to traffic in large amounts of narcotics.

The court also ordered the forfeiture of three pieces of real property, two high-end vehicles, multiple firearms and more than $14,000 to the United States.

Reyes was charged with seven others with multiple counts of conspiring or aiding and abetting others with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine from February 2009 through June 2013. Gerardo Garcia, 34, Salvador Izaguirre, 31, and  Christopher Mejia, 22, all of Houston; and Refugio Ibarra, 26, of Mexico, have already been sentenced to terms ranging from 87 to 121 months in federal prison. The remaining three defendants - Delfino Maldonado, 30, and Alexander Reyes, 30, both of Houston; and Jeremy Perkins, 32; of Louisiana, are awaiting sentencing.

The case was the result of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force investigation dubbed Operation Wheel Alignment and included Drug Enforcement Administration and the Houston Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Mark E. Donnelly is prosecuting.
