Nearly Seven Kilos Of Pure Meth Lands Kyle Man In Prison For Nearly 20 Years
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Jesus Castillo Jr., 40, of Kyle, has been ordered to prison following his conviction of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a large quantity of methamphetamine, Drug Enforcement (DEA) Special Agent in Charge Javier F. Peña and United States Attorney Kenneth Magidson announced today. Castillo pleaded guilty April 30, 2012.
Today, U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos handed him a sentence of 235 months in federal prison which will be followed by five years of supervised release.
In March 2012, Border (BP) agents contacted Castillo at a gas station in Riviera. After a service K-9 alerted to Castillo’s vehicle, agents discovered approximately 3.5 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed within the vehicle’s battery. In addition, BP agents at the Sarita checkpoint were able to identify and detain another vehicle, driven by another person traveling with Castillo. A detailed inspection of the second vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 3.5 kilograms of methamphetamine also concealed within the vehicle’s battery. Laboratory analysis determined the methamphetamine had a purity of more than 95%.
In federal custody since his arrest, Castillo will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
The conviction stems from an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and BP. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lance Watt prosecuted the case.
