Tyler County Woman Sentenced For Drug Trafficking
BEAUMONT, TX - A 29-year-old Warren, Texas, woman has been sentenced to federal prison for drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas announced, Drug Enforcement (DEA) Acting Special Agent in Charge, Thomas Hinojosa and U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.
Elizabeth Imogene Smith pleaded guilty on Jan. 6, 2011, to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and was sentenced to 140 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Ron Clark.
According to information presented in court, on July 27, 2010, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at the Super 8 Motel on Interstate 10 in Beaumont after receiving information that drugs were being distributed in a specific room of the motel. Officers observed Smith enter the motel and proceed towards the room. Smith was detained and a search of a bag in her possession revealed a water bottle with a hidden compartment. Inside the compartment, officers discovered three clear plastic bags containing approximately 70 grams of methamphetamine. A search of the room revealed an additional 1.6 grams of methamphetamine, two digital scales, a notebook containing drug notes and legers and various drug paraphernalia. Smith was indicted by a federal grand jury on Oct. 20, 2010 and charged with federal drug violations.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Beaumont Police Department and prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Baylor Wortham.
