LONDON, Ky. - A Barbourville, Kentucky man was arrested today pursuant to a federal indictment that accuses him of growing a large number of marijuana plants and illegally possessing firearms.

Leslie Monroe, 52, was charged Wednesday, March 28, 2013, with manufacturing over 100 marijuana plants and with possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug offense. Monroe allegedly grew the plants in August of 2012. In addition, Monroe allegedly possessed two rifles, a shotgun, and ammunition that were used to further this drug offense.

Kerry B. Harvey, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, Robert L. Corso, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Detroit Field Division, and Rodney Brewer, Commissioner, Kentucky State Police, jointly made the announcement.

The investigation preceding the indictment was conducted by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and the Kentucky State Police. The indictment was presented to the grand jury by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael D. Pratt.

The offense of manufacturing more than 100 plants of marijuana carries a minimum of five years in prison and a maximum of 40 years. The firearm offense carries a minimum of five years in prison. However, any sentence following a conviction would be imposed by the court after consideration of the United States Sentencing Guidelines and the federal statutes governing the imposition of sentences.
