Twelve hundred pounds of marijuana and nearly $700,000 seized by investigators

LOUISVILLE, KY - Five Louisville men are charged in a criminal complaint with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana, announced David J. Hale, United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.

According to the complaint filed on October 19, 2011, in United States District Court in Louisville, Kentucky, Donte Pullum, 32, Detrick Houseal, 32, Marcelo Carrillo Jr., 32, Ronald Wells, 26, and Jeffrey Driskell, 27, conspired to transport significant quantities of illegal drugs in to Jefferson County for the purpose of distribution.

Court records indicate that beginning in June 2011, the Drug Enforcement (DEA) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and (ATF) began an investigation of a criminal drug trafficking organization involving the five defendants. Extensive surveillance and investigative techniques led to the request, authorization and execution of four search warrants at two Louisville residences and two storage locations; one in Louisville and one in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. Those warrants led to the seizure of approximately 540.5 (1,200 pounds) of marijuana, nearly $700,000 in U.S. currency, two firearms, ammunition for an assault rifle, an F-250 pick-up truck and trailer hauling a CAT generator shell designed as a hidden compartment which is consistent with a secret method of transporting illegal drugs.

If convicted at trial, the defendants face a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison, a fine of five million dollars and four years of supervised release.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney J. Scott Davis and is being investigated by the DEA and the ATF, along with their task force partners, including the Louisville Metro PD, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Kentucky State Police, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, the Indiana State Police, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
