MADISON, WI. - - Jack Riley, Special Agent in Charge for the Chicago Field Division of the Drug Enforcement (DEA), and John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin announced that three men were recently sentenced for conspiring to possess marijuana with intent to distribute. U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb sentenced the following individuals on February 4, 2011 for their participation in the conspiracy:

  • John Baszynski, 32, Madison, Wis., sentenced to 46 months;• Michael P. Herrick, 28, Aurora, Ill., sentenced to 46 months; and
  • Jon Lee, 32, Madison, Wis., sentenced to 21 months.

The following individuals have also been previously convicted and sentenced for their roles in this drug conspiracy:

  • Jason R. Fried, 36, San Diego, sentenced on February 1, 2011 to ten years;
  • Brooke Sams, 30, Redmond, Wash., sentenced on February 1, 2011 to one day; and
  • David L. Hirsch, 31, Madison, Wis., sentenced on November 22, 2010, to 45 months.

Lee was convicted on November 16, following a jury trial; the other five defendants pleaded guilty. Fried was sentenced as the leader of the conspiracy. The conspiracy involved in excess of 1,000 (equivalent to 2,200 pounds) of marijuana. The marijuana was brought to Wisconsin from the Seattle area and distributed in Dane County from September 2004 to July 2007.

The prosecution of these six individuals was the result of an investigation conducted by DEA and Dane County Narcotics and Gang Task Force. The prosecution of this case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Przybylinski Finn.
