DEA Caribbean Division National Take Back Day Yields 992 Pounds Of Prescription Drugs
SAN JUAN, PR. - The Drug Enforcement (DEA) Caribbean Division collected approximately 992 pounds of prescription drugs in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands during the DEA National Take Back Day Initiative announced Javier F. Peña, Special Agent in Charge of the Caribbean Division.
“This is our third National Take Back Initiative. DEA continues to work hard in fighting the abuse of prescription drugs and keeping them out of the illegal drug market and off of our streets,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge Javier F. Peña. “DEA thanks the people of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands for their overwhelming support and for making a conscious effort to dispose of their prescription drugs in a safe manner.”
In Puerto Rico, DEA collected 664 pounds of prescription drugs. The DEA in the U. S. Virgin Islands collected 328 pounds of prescription drugs. DEA operated 16 collection sites in Puerto Rico and six in the U.S. Virgin Islands last Saturday.
The following agencies and community organizations provided significant assistance to DEA during the National Take Back Day: Home Instead Senior Care, Puerto Rico Police Department, the Municipalities of Guaynabo, Cabo Rojo, Barceloneta, Cidra, Isabela, Jayuya, San German, Vega Baja, Mayaguez, and the Islands of St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John.
