(BURLINGTON, Vt. - Acting Special Agent in Charge Michael J. Ferguson for the Drug Enforcement Administration in New England and Eugenia A.P. Cowles, the Acting United States Attorney for the District of Vermont, stated that Joe Young, 37, of the Bronx, New York, was sentenced on March 6, 2015 by Chief United States District Court Judge Christina Reiss, to 48 months in prison for conspiracy to distribute both heroin and cocaine base in Vermont. Young was also sentenced to three years of supervised release following his release from prison.

According to Court records, on March 8, 2014, special agents with the United States Drug Enforcement (DEA) executed a federal search warrant at an apartment at 246 ½ Main Street in Winooski, Vermont and arrested Joe Young, known on the street as “Moe.” Young was in possession of both heroin and crack cocaine that he and others intended to sell in Vermont. The drugs had been brought to Winooski, Vermont by a courier hired by Young who took a bus to Plattsburg, New York. The courier was picked up and transported to Winooski at the direction of Young. At the time Young was arrested, he was on federal supervised release from a prior drug and gun conviction in the Southern District of New York. He was in Vermont without the knowledge or permission of his New York probation officer.

Young was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 20, 2014. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine base on November 6, 2014. He has been detained in prison since his arrest.
