New York Man Sentenced To Over 12 Years For Heroin Trafficking
PORTLAND, Maine - John J. Arvanitis, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement (DEA) for New England and United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced today that Roger Burke, 31, of New York, New York, was sentenced yesterday by Judge D. Brock Hornby in U.S. District Court in Portland to 151 months in prison for conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin. Burke pled guilty to the charges in August 2013.
According to the Government's evidence, Burke was arrested in October 2012 after he and a co-defendant attempted to deliver over 20 grams of heroin to a cooperating informant working with the U.S. Drug Enforcement (DEA).
Because this was Burke's third drug trafficking conviction, Burke was sentenced as a "career offender." Such offenders are subject to increased prison terms under the federal sentencing guidelines.
United States Attorney Delahanty said that the success of this case is based on the cooperative investigative efforts of the DEA and the Somerset County Sheriff's Office.
