BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - John J. Arvanitis, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration for New England and David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Kurt Schneider, 23, of Fairfield, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant in Hartford to 14 months of imprisonment, followed by two years of supervised release, for possessing a stolen firearm. Schneider also was ordered to pay a $250 fine.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on October 24, 2011, Schneider, Arthur Preston and Anthony Rodriguez stole six firearms, 32 rounds of hollow point ammunition and other items from a residence in Fairfield. Later that day, Schneider was stopped by police in Bridgeport and found to be in possession of a Charter Arms .22 caliber rifle and other items taken from the Fairfield residence.

Schneider has been detained since his arrest on March 8, 2012. On August 3, 2012, he pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a stolen firearm. Preston and Rodriguez have pleaded guilty and await sentencing. All six stolen firearms have been recovered.

This matter was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Fairfield Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Michael J. Gustafson and Tracy L. Dayton.
