New Haven Man Sentenced To 30 Months In Prison For Receiving Shipment Of Marijuana
NEW HAVEN, CT. - Steven W. Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration for New England and David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that JAVIER GARCIA, 33, of Market Street, New Haven, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant in Hartford to 30 months if imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for possessing with intent to distribute marijuana.
According to court documents and statements made in court, in February 2010, the Drug Enforcement Administration in New Haven received information from the DEA in Tucson, Arizona that a crate containing marijuana was being shipped from Arizona to a warehouse in West Haven. On March 3, 2010, DEA Task Force agents at the location watched as the crate was delivered to GARCIA at his warehouse. A subsequent search of the warehouse revealed that approximately 204 pounds of marijuana had been placed in heat sealed plastic bags inside the crate that had been delivered.
On March 17, 2011, GARCIA pleaded guilty to one count of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.
This matter was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Haven Task Force, which is composed of members of the Branford, New Haven, West Haven, Meriden, Ansonia and Hamden Police Departments.
