NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Police Department has successfully identified and charged a man suspected in the 2008 murder of Angela Lechlitner.

On the morning of January 19, 2008, Angela Lechlitner’s body was discovered at her residence in the 2400 block of Shafer Street in Norfolk, Virginia. Angela’s death was deemed a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, but her murder remained unsolved.

During the past seven years, the Norfolk Police Department’s Homicide Section and Cold Case Section continued to pursue all leads in the case. During this time, a North Carolina resident, 27-year-old Michael Brown, was identified as a suspect. In a collaborative effort, the Norfolk Police Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation continued to develop evidence as the case progressed. This partnership eventually led to Brown being charged with one count of second degree murder on September 28, 2015.

In a coordinated effort with the Drug Enforcement Administration, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Brown was arrested on September 28, 2015 shortly after 5:00 p.m. in Wayne County, North Carolina.

Brown is currently being held in the Wayne County Corrections Facility for extradition to Virginia.

The Norfolk Police Department extends their gratitude to the Drug Enforcement Administration, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for their integral assistance in the investigation of Angela Lechlitner’s murder.

The DEA encourages parents, along with their children, to educate themselves about the dangers of legal and illegal drugs by visiting DEA’s interactive websites at www.justthinktwice.com, www.GetSmartAboutDrugs.com and www.dea.gov.
