U.S. Attorney’s Office Unveils First Annual Project Safe Neighborhoods Report
ROANOKE, Va. – First Assistant United States Attorney Robert N. Tracci today announced the release of the first Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Annual Report highlighting the district’s ongoing efforts to reduce violent crime by enhancing law enforcement partnerships across federal, state, and local agencies, including Virginia sheriff’s offices, police departments, and Commonwealth’s Attorney’s.
This year’s report underscores the significant impact of three major PSN operations conducted in Danville, Roanoke, and Lynchburg. Each of these initiatives focused on identifying and prioritizing drivers of violent crime and removing them from the community, as well as seizing illegal firearms and narcotics from our streets.
The report reflects the Department of Justice’s renewed emphasis on deepening collaboration with law enforcement at every level. By unifying resources, intelligence, and investigative capabilities, PSN aims to enhance the effectiveness of crime reduction strategies to promote community safety and the role of law.
“The extraordinary success of combined law enforcement operations in Danville, Roanoke, and Lynchburg over the last year is a direct result of the cooperation, dedication and professionalism of our local, state, and federal partners. This office will seek maximum accountability against those who violate federal law in the Western District of Virginia and further enhance partnerships to ensure that every citizen of this district can live with safety and dignity in their communities,” First Assistant United States Attorney Tracci said today.
“Our top operational priority at the DEA is protecting and saving American lives by combatting the devastating fentanyl crisis and the drug-related violence tearing at the foundation of our communities. Through our critical partnerships with state and local law enforcement, we are leveraging enforcement efforts like the Project Safe Neighborhoods operations to hold violent drug traffickers and gang members accountable. By working hand-in-hand, we are successfully removing illicit drugs, firearms, and violent offenders from our streets and ensuring the lasting safety of families in our local areas.” — Special Agent in Charge Cindy Marx
The PSN initiative remains the Department of Justice’s flagship program for reducing violent crime, built on the principles of evidence-based strategies, targeted enforcement, and rapid response to violent crime.
