Mark Putnam
Mark Putnam is Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration's Rocky Mountain Field Division. He oversees DEA operations in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana across more than 430,000 square miles of territory.
Putnam began his law enforcement career in 1996 as a patrol officer and then narcotics detective with the Albuquerque Police Department. In 2002 he was assigned to the DEA as a Task Force Officer. He completed DEA's Academy in Quantico, Virginia in 2004 and was assigned to the Fresno, California Resident Office. Putnam served as a Special Agent, handling various types of investigations, including wiretaps and multi-year complex conspiracy cases.
In 2012, Putnam was assigned to DEA's Brasilia Country Office in South America, where he worked for six years alongside the Brazilian Federal Police and other State agencies on international drug cases. He came back to the United States in 2018 promoting to a Supervisory Special Agent in Albany, New York, where he led a group of agents and task force officers.
In 2023, Putnam was assigned to DEA Headquarters, Office of Foreign Operations, first as a Staff Coordinator, then Acting Section Chief, and finally promoted to Section Chief. He led the Latin America and Caribbean section and represented DEA as the liaison to Department of State.
Prior to joining the Rocky Mountain Field Division, Putnam was assigned as an Assistant Special Agent in Charge in the El Paso Field Division, where he supervised groups investigating Mexican drug cartel activity and domestic narcotics investigations.
A graduate of the University of Arizona with a degree in Business and Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Putnam now leads the DEA Rocky Mountain Field Division and its thirteen offices in four states.
