What is IDEC?

IDEC is the largest international gathering of senior drug enforcement officials. Nearly 500 drug enforcement officials and delegates from 110 countries are gathered in Argentina to strengthen global cooperation in the fight against transnational drug trafficking and emerging drug threats. 

Attendees participate in strategic discussions aimed at strengthening international counternarcotics cooperation, critical intelligence sharing, and coordinated enforcement priorities against drug trafficking, international money laundering, and narco-terrorists.

This year's conference underscores the enduring partnership between the United States and Argentina, and the broader international community's continued commitment to disrupting the networks that fuel the global drug trade and threaten regional and international security.

Opening Ceremony, Welcome Remarks, Keynote Speech

A powerful kickoff to IDEC2026! DEA Administrator Cole welcomed drug enforcement leaders from 110 countries, uniting over 500 attendees for the International Drug Enforcement Conference (IDEC XL). The opening ceremonies set the tone for global collaboration, information exchange, and a shared commitment to making a difference and keeping our countries safe.

DEA Administrator Terry Cole and Argentina’s Minister of National Security Alejandra Monteoliva highlighted cross-border cooperation and their shared commitment to targeting narco-traffickers during a press conference in Buenos Aires. By building strong relationships, sharing intelligence, and strengthening proactive policing, countries can disrupt entire transnational criminal networks, reduce crime, and improve quality of life worldwide. A Featured Conversation with Terry Cole & Omar Garcia Harfuch

Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of Mexico Omar Hamid García Harfuch provided the keynote presentation at IDEC 2026. Following Secretary Harfuch’s remarks, he sat down with Administrator Cole for a candid conversation in which they spoke about their professional partnership and the collaboration between U.S. and Mexico law enforcement.
