Daniel G. Escobar
Daniel G. Escobar serves as the Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Tampa Field Division. Selected in December 2025 as the inaugural Special Agent in Charge of the newly established division, Mr. Escobar is responsible for shaping and developing the Tampa Division while supporting the DEA’s regional strategic initiatives and enforcement priorities.
Mr. Escobar has nearly three decades of law enforcement experience. He began his career in 1998 as a United States Border Patrol Agent assigned to the McAllen Sector, Brownsville Station. He later served as a Police Officer with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department before joining the Drug Enforcement Administration in 2002.
Upon graduating from DEA training in Quantico, Virginia, Mr. Escobar was assigned to the Miami Field Division. He was promoted to Group Supervisor of the West Palm Beach Resident Office in 2011. In 2014, he was selected as the DEA Country Attaché for the Bahamas, Caribbean Division, where he served as the principal advisor to the United States Ambassador on narcotics-related matters and coordinated bilateral counter-narcotics efforts.
In 2017, Mr. Escobar was assigned to the DEA Inspections Division, Office of Professional Responsibility, where he investigated allegations of misconduct involving DEA personnel. In 2019, he was promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Miami Field Division, overseeing complex investigations, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area initiatives in South Florida, and worldwide sensitive Attorney General Exempted Operations.
In 2025, Mr. Escobar was appointed as the Deputy Chief Inspector for the DEA enterprise within the Inspections Division. Serving as the Deputy Chief Inspector of the Office of Professional Responsibility, he led efforts to modernize investigative processes and improve case management, achieving the fastest completion rate of internal investigations in the office’s history and enhancing accountability and operational efficiency.Mr. Escobar holds a Master’s Degree in Executive Leadership and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Public Administration. A native of Florida, he is married and has two daughters.
