Miguel A. Madrigal
Special Agent in Charge Miguel A. Madrigal commenced his law enforcement career in September 2001, joining the United States Border Patrol. In November 2003, he transitioned to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and was assigned to the Los Angeles Division Office. During his tenure there, he conducted investigations with both local and international implications, prioritizing Consolidated Priority Target Organizations.
In 2008, Mr. Madrigal relocated to the Mexico City Country Office. By 2012, he had been promoted to Group Supervisor, overseeing an enforcement team within that office. During his tenure in Mexico, Madrigal spearheaded operations targeting Mexican Cartel Leaders in collaboration with various Mexican government entities, including the Federal Police, Marines, Army, and the Federal Prosecutor’s Office. He also initiated the North & Central America Region (NCAR) Methamphetamine Initiative, which encompassed the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of training programs across the region and with its counterparts.
In 2015, Mr. Madrigal transferred to the DEA San Antonio District Office, where he led a Task Force Group dedicated to investigating cryptocurrency money laundering and transnational criminal organizations. During his tenure, his group conducted several high-profile investigations, including the dismantlement of a dark web fentanyl distribution organization responsible for several overdoses throughout the United States.
In June 2018, he relocated to the Panama City Country Office as the Staff Coordinator for the Special Operations Division, providing support and oversight for DEA operations throughout Central America and Mexico. In September 2019, he was appointed Assistant Regional Director in Panama City, Panama, overseeing the DEA offices in Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. The region enjoyed tremendous success during this period, culminating in the arrest and extradition of multiple corrupt cabinet-level foreign government officials.
In May 2022, Mr. Madrigal was promoted to Senior Executive Service, assuming the role of Deputy Special Agent in Charge of the Houston Division. In January 2026, Mr. Madrigal was promoted to Special Agent in Charge of the newly established DEA San Antonio Field Division. In this capacity, he oversees District Offices in the central region and southern border of Texas.
A native Texan from West Texas, Mr. Madrigal has dedicated a substantial portion of his career to international assignments and at the United States-Mexico border. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Texas at El Paso and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University.
