John P. Scott
John P. Scott assumed the role of Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Orleans Division on June 1, 2026. In this capacity, he oversees DEA operations across Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, directing all enforcement, intelligence, regulatory, and administrative activities throughout the region.
Prior to this assignment, SAC Scott served as DEA’s Associate Chief of Operations (ACO) for Strategy and Support at DEA Headquarters, where he led a portfolio that included the DEA’s Office of Training, El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC), Aviation Division, Office of Investigative Technology, Office of Counterdrug Strategy, and DEA’s Intelligence Community and Department of War liaison elements.
SAC Scott entered the DEA in 2004 and has served in a variety of domestic and international leadership positions throughout his career. His assignments have included investigations targeting major drug trafficking organizations in Miami, overseas service in Mérida, Mexico, and Country Attaché in Guatemala City, Guatemala, where he served as the principal advisor to the U.S. Ambassador on narcotics and money laundering matters. He has also held leadership positions as ASAC in Oklahoma and EPIC, and as Special Agent in Charge of DEA’s Asia Pacific Division based at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, where he directed operations across 34 countries focused on precursor chemical trafficking, illicit finance, and transnational organized crime.
Before joining the DEA, SAC Scott served as a police officer in Charlotte, North Carolina, and as a non-commissioned officer in the United States Air Force. He holds both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Criminal Justice and has completed executive leadership programs through the University of Notre Dame, the University of Virginia, and the Command Staff College.
Beyond his professional achievements, SAC Scott is a dedicated family man, married with two daughters. His unwavering commitment to combat drug trafficking, upholding the law, and developing the next generation of DEA leaders, makes him a highly respected and effective leader within the DEA.
