DEA issues Immediate Suspension Orders to a Tennessee pharmacy over Controlled Substances Act violations
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Earlier today, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration issued an Immediate Suspension Orders (ISO) to A+ Pharmacy, a retail drug store located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. An ISO is an emergency administrative action that immediately suspends a DEA registrant's authority to handle controlled substances, due to imminent danger to public health or safety.
The heightened measure comes after a joint investigation by DEA diversion investigators and the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy exposed compliance discrepancies and violations of the Controlled Substances Act at the business in recent months.
“What we’ve uncovered in this investigation is nothing short of egregious,” said Special Agent in Charge Jim Scott, head of DEA’s Louisville Field Division. “The details of this case are disturbing and go well beyond regulatory infractions. When the allegations are made public, the community will be stunned.”
As a result of today’s action by the DEA, A+ Pharmacy can no longer handle controlled substances of any kind while the ISO remains in effect. DEA registrants have 30 days to request a hearing to contest a suspension. However, the suspension will remain in effect until all administrative proceedings are finalized.
This case is being investigated by DEA’s Knoxville District Office and the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy. DEA’s Office of the Chief Counsel also assisted with the case.
