DEA's Operation Engage Initiative Offers Exciting, Educational, and Free Events in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia

Washington, DC – This summer, the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) Washington Division is hosting three Operation Engage Teen Academies across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) for youth aged 13 to 18, as announced by Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Ibrar A. Mian.

"Our young citizens deserve a summer filled with safe, structured, and enriching experiences," stated SAC Mian. "We are committed to providing families with access to high-quality programs that offer enriching experiences to promote learning, recreation, and healthy lifestyles. Together, we are building a safer, stronger nation!"

The DEA Washington Division's Summer Teen Academies recently kicked off in Prince George's County, Maryland, where over 35 participants enjoyed a day full of hands-on activities, friendship, and learning.

Registration is currently open for the Richmond, VA Teen Academy on August 13 and 14  (DEA Op. Engage Teen Academy- Richmond, VA). Spaces are limited, and participants are responsible for their own transportation.

SAC Mian emphasized, "We're partnering with the DEA Educational Foundation and numerous local partners to deliver an unforgettable day of excitement and learning."

Each academy offers a unique program, generally featuring a variety of lessons and workshops, including:

  • Healthy Lifestyle and Drug Prevention

  • Presentation Skills Building

  • Conflict Resolution, Stress Coping, and Wellness

  • Fun & Dynamic Team Building Activities: Basketball, Martial Arts, and Low Impact Movement

  • Career Exploration Day

  • Drug-Free Life! - Red Ribbon Pledge

Families are encouraged to seize this opportunity for their children to engage, learn, and grow this summer!

Looking ahead to fall, the DEA Washington Division will host a two-day After School Teen Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. This event promises to offer valuable educational experiences for students. Details regarding the date, location, and registration will be provided on the division’s social media pages shortly. We invite the public to stay tuned for further updates.

DEA Operation Engage initiative is a comprehensive community-level approach that bridges public health and public safety to address the drug epidemic through prevention strategies, to empower youth, help them realize their potential, and guide them toward making positive life choices. Each year DEA Washington Division identifies its most challenging areas based on current drug threat data, designates a city or region, and focuses on community engagement by promoting educational and preventive programs to combat drug misuse, particularly targeting fentanyl in communities in DC, MD, VA.
