Mexican Citizen Sentenced to Over 6 years in Federal Prison for Cocaine Trafficking
Louisville, Ky. – A Mexican citizen was sentenced on June 10, 2025, to 6 years and 3 months in federal prison for cocaine trafficking.
Special Agent in Charge Jim Scott of the DEA Louisville Field Division, U.S. Attorney Kyle G. Bumgarner of the Western District of Kentucky, and Chief Paul Humphrey of the Louisville Metro Police Department made the announcement.
According to court documents, Hector Campoy, 41, of Sonora, Mexico, was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, for one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Campoy was illegally in the United States.
“I commend the work of DEA and LMPD investigators in this case,” said Special Agent in Charge Jim Scott, head of DEA’s Louisville Division. “Let this be a warning to all transnational drug traffickers; if you’re operating within our borders, DEA will hunt you down and you will be brought to justice.”
"We will eradicate the deluge of poison being pumped into the Western District of Kentucky by transnational criminal organizations and illegal immigrants. This sentence is one step in that direction, with much more work to be done,” said U.S. Attorney Kyle Bumgarner.
“Another dangerous criminal is off the streets and behind bars thanks to the strong partnership among our law enforcement agencies. This case reflects our continued commitment to protecting the safety of Louisville’s neighborhoods,” said Chief Paul Humphrey.
There is no parole in the federal system.
This case was investigated by the DEA and LMPD.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Frank Dahl prosecuted the case.
