SAC Ibrar A. Mian

SAC Ibrar A. Mian

Washington, DC – In January 2025, Ibrar A. Mian was appointed as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Washington Division, which covers the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV).

Special Agent in Charge Mian's vast experience in both domestic and international drug investigations, along with his demonstrated capability to lead and work alongside law enforcement partners, make him exceptionally qualified for this important position.  In this capacity, he oversees a dedicated team of approximately 340 individuals who are focused on promoting the agency's mission and supporting the community.

SAC Mian brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role, having served in various leadership positions within the DEA and the private sector.  He has dedicated his two-decade law enforcement career to ensuring the safety of our communities by dismantling Transnational Criminal Organizations and combating violent crime and drug-related poisonings.   Since joining the DEA, he has held positions in various offices throughout the nation and abroad, including California, Maryland, Virginia, Illinois, Washington D.C., and Pakistan.

His primary focus is to safeguard lives by addressing drug-related violence and fentanyl poisonings in the DMV area.  “The DEA’s mission is to save American lives,” expressed SAC Mian.  “We are committed to implementing proactive and aggressive measures to ensure that communities across the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia are safe from the violence and deadly destruction perpetrated by drug and other criminal organizations that prey on Americans.  Year-after-year we have seized record amounts of drugs, many of them mixed with fentanyl and other dangerous synthetic drugs.”

SAC Mian’s priorities for the DEA Washington Division also include: 1. Build and foster partnerships at local, state, and federal levels to enhance the agency's investigative capabilities, improve information sharing, and work collaboratively, 2. Implement a data-driven approach to identify patterns of criminal activity and allocate resources to prevent and remove threats, 3. Enhance the Community Outreach program to engage with the public, fostering important conversations to bridge gaps and create stronger, more resilient communities, 4. Promote compliance with the Controlled Substance Act to prevent, detect, and investigate the diversion of controlled pharmaceuticals, while ensuring a steady supply for legitimate medical, commercial, and scientific needs, and 5. Provide the best tools and resources to efficiently manage operations while prioritizing the wellbeing and safety of the workforce.

Special Agent in Charge Mian explained that “we are in the middle of a security and national public health emergency driven by violent crimes, deadly drug trafficking and other unscrupulous actions by cartels and other criminal organizations.  This is why it is essential to use all the resources of the federal government and to collaborate with our state and local partners for the safety and wellbeing of our citizens and their communities.” In 2024, the DEA Washington Division’s efforts prevented over 3 million estimated fatal doses of fentanyl from infiltrating local neighborhoods.  “It’s heartbreaking how many lives have been lost to fentanyl, and what's worse is how many didn't even know the poison they took,” added SAC Mian.

SAC Mian feels honored and privileged to lead and collaborate with the most committed law enforcement professionals at the DEA Washington Division, who serve the communities in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Binghamton University in New York, and a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from Boston University.  He is originally from New York, has resided in Virginia for five years, and is married with three children.
