Drug Trafficker Sentenced to 10 Years in Federal Prison
Traffic Stop Led to Discovery of 25 Pounds of Methamphetamine
BOISE, Idaho – Robert Paul Anthony Aragon, 31, of California, was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine.
According to court records, Aragon was stopped for a traffic violation in Owyhee County. During the stop, a K9 trained in the detection of the odor of a controlled substance conducted an open-air sniff around Aragon’s vehicle and positively alerted to the presence of the odor of a controlled substance. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered 25 pounds of methamphetamine, 2.2 pounds (one kilo) of cocaine, and a Glock 27 firearm with an extended magazine carrying 22 rounds of ammunition.
Senior U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill also ordered Aragon to serve five years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
U.S. Attorney Hurwit commended the work of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Nampa Police Department Special Investigations Unit, the Owyhee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Idaho State Police, which led to the charges and arrest. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Morse prosecuted this case.
