Defendant was in a Car Stopped in Idaho with a Large Quantity of Fentanyl Pills

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Ayana R. Bacon, 25, of Box Elder, Montana, was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl.

According to court records, Bacon was a passenger in a car which was stopped in Shoshone County, Idaho on September 22, 2023.  The individuals in the car had picked up a large quantity of fentanyl pills in Washington and were taking them to Montana to distribute them.

“Fentanyl traffickers prey on the misery of victims of substance use disorder for their own profit,” said David F. Reames, Special Agent in Charge, DEA Seattle Field Division. “I am gratified that DEA and our partners could hold this defendant accountable for her role in fentanyl trafficking to rural America.”

U.S. District Judge Amanda K. Brailsford also ordered that Bacon be placed on supervised release for three years following her prison sentence.  Bacon pleaded guilty to the charge in August 2024.

“Fentanyl is a deadly threat and, along with our dedicated federal and state law enforcement partners, we are focused on shutting it out of Idaho,” said U.S. Attorney Hurwit.  “This means prosecuting those who bring it into Idaho communities as well as those using our highways to take loads to another state. Either way, we will hold you accountable.”

U.S. Attorney Hurwit thanked the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Idaho State Police for their collaboration in this investigation.  Assistant U.S. Attorney Bryce Ellsworth prosecuted the case.
