New England Leadership

SAC Brian D. Boyle

Brian D. Boyle was appointed as Special Agent in Charge of the New England Field Division on May 7, 2018.  As Special Agent in Charge, Mr. Boyle oversees all enforcement operations throughout the six New England States.  The New England Field Division is comprised of sixteen offices.

Prior to being named Special Agent in Charge, Mr. Boyle served as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the New Haven District Office from August 2011 to May 2018.  In that role, he oversaw all enforcement operations in the states of Connecticut and Rhode Island.  Mr. Boyle was instrumental in establishing proactive efforts to attack the heroin epidemic impacting New England.  Under his leadership, these offices conducted highly significant heroin investigations that successfully dismantled major heroin distribution organizations operating in New England.   In addition, Mr. Boyle established the first heroin overdose response team in New England.  This group was responsible for targeting those individuals who provided heroin to individuals who died as a result of an overdose.

Mr. Boyle started his law enforcement career with the Drug Enforcement Administration in 1990 as a Special Agent assigned to the New York Drug Enforcement Task Force.  Mr. Boyle conducted numerous complex criminal and financial investigations targeting domestic and international narcotic trafficking organizations.  While assigned to the Task Force Mr. Boyle twice received the DEA Administrator’s Award for Group Achievement as well as the New York State Prosecutors’ Investigative Award.  In 1998 Mr. Boyle was transferred to the Portland, Maine Resident Office.  In that assignment, Mr. Boyle initiated the first Title III wire intercept investigation in the State of Maine.

In 2003, Mr. Boyle was promoted to the Resident Agent in Charge of the Bridgeport, CT Resident Office where he served for five years.  In that role Mr. Boyle led international investigations targeting Dominican and Mexican drug trafficking organizations operating in Connecticut.  Additionally, he oversaw the Southern New England HIDTA Task Force which consisted of law enforcement officers from numerous agencies in Connecticut.

In June 2008 Mr. Boyle was reassigned to the DEA Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia where he was assigned to the Office of Congressional and Public Affairs.  In December of 2008, Mr. Boyle was promoted to the Executive Assistant to the Chief of Congressional Affairs and served in that role until August 2011.  In that capacity, Mr. Boyle was responsible for promoting the mission and accomplishments of DEA and bringing awareness of the controlled substance laws and regulations of the United States to Capitol Hill and the media.

Mr. Boyle is a native of Massachusetts and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University.
