DEA Chicago Field Division agents seize 2.15 kilograms of suspected fentanyl, 15.65 kilograms of suspected cocaine, one un-serialized semi-automatic, 9mm handgun and approximately $20,000

CHICAGO – Sheila Lyons, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Chicago Field Division, announced that two Chicago men have been arrested and charged for narcotics and armed violence crimes.

Noe Cabrera-Hernandez, 33, was charged with manufacture-delivery of fentanyl and possession of cocaine. Enrique Garcia-Alvarez, 33, was charged with armed violence, manufacture-delivery of fentanyl, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

The charges were approved by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

On June 27, DEA agents began surveillance of Cabrera-Hernandez’s residence and vehicle. During the surveillance, DEA agents observed Cabrera-Hernandez exit the residence and hand a box to Garcia-Alvarez.

Following a consensual encounter of the vehicle, DEA agents uncovered and seized approximately 2.15 kilograms of suspected fentanyl and an un-serialized, loaded 9mm handgun.

DEA agents then re-established surveillance on Cabrera-Hernandez’s residence, and observed him exiting the residence with a red tool bag. DEA agents approached Cabrera-Hernandez and searched his tool bag, which contained approximately 1.25 kilograms of suspected cocaine. Cabrera-Hernandez later provided verbal and written consent of his residence, resulting in a discovery and seizure of approximately 14.4 kilograms of suspected cocaine, and approximately $20,000.

Judge William Fahy set cash bail at $500,000 for Cabrera-Hernandez, and a cash bail of $200,000 for Garcia-Alvarez.

The public is reminded that an indictment contains only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
