NEW ORLEANS – The Drug Enforcement Administration, New Orleans Field Division, wants to hear from families in this region as they share stories about their loved ones, but also assist them with awareness information, education resources, introduce them to other prevention/treatment/counseling partners, who will be present at the event.

WHEN: Tuesday, November 15 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CST.

WHERE: Jefferson Baptist Church, 9135 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70809

WHAT: Summit for families who have suffered the loss of a loved one due to illicit substances or have a loved one currently suffering through illicit substance use disorder.

WHO: DEA New Orleans Field Division, Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office, Office of the Governor, Capital Area Human Services District, Louisiana Primary Care Association and more.

DEA Special Agent in Charge Brad Byerley said, “Drug-related deaths are plaguing the nation, including here in the state of Louisiana, and killing Americans at record rates. Last year alone, nearly 108,000 lives were lost to a drug overdose, with fentanyl and methamphetamine driving this record increase.  DEA will continue to use the tools we have to dismantle the drug trafficking organizations flooding America with this poison. We know law enforcement cannot tackle this alone. That's why DEA is hosting a Family Summit on the Overdose Epidemic. This event aims to create a dialogue to affect change through awareness and prevention."

Families who would like to attend the event must rsvp. To rsvp or to get more information, please contact Dr. Leslie Faulkner at Leslie.M.Faulkner@dea.gov or 571-362-4737.
