PORTLAND, ME – The New England Field Division’s (NEFD) DEA 360 Maine Strategy is partnering with Drug Free Aroostook (Aroostook County Action Program) and Power of Prevention (Cary Medical Center) for a FREE family film showing of “If They Had Known”.

Documentary Film Showing: If They Had Known

Date: May 10th, 2021 (Monday)

Time: 6:00pm – 7:00 pm

This film is a powerful moving documentary that focuses on the risks of the current party culture among youth and young adults. It is not about drug addiction but about the dangers of casual use of mixing drugs with alcohol.  Mixing prescription drugs with alcohol has become all too common in high schools and on college campuses and is resulting in accidental deaths. This documentary is an honest and emotional account by friends and family that was there at the time of a young man’s death. It is an actual event that could have been avoided, ‘If They Had Known”.

This showing is made possible by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Portland Maine Resident Office, as part of DEA 360 Strategy. This initiative combats the growing opioid epidemic from three perspectives: 1. Law enforcement, 2. Diversion control, and 3. Community outreach and prevention. DEA 360 strives to assist coalitions, schools, community organizations, and local governments to enhance their primary prevention, healthy life choices and drug awareness efforts by providing free resources, trainings and education throughout Maine. In an effort to provide youth with education in community based problem solving, DEA 360 in Maine has partnered with local organizations and schools in providing this film FREE to all Maine organizations, colleges and schools.

Through this film, we hope that students become aware of the toxic risks of combining prescription drugs with alcohol, understand the consequences of today’s party culture and the responsibility to act if you think someone is at risk. We hope to avoid other such tragic accidental deaths in the future.

To pre-register for the event, please contact Kim Parent at 207-540-3659 or email kimparent@carymed.org or Robin Thurston at 207-498-9602 or

rthurston@acap-me.org.  Once you are registered, you will be emailed a confirmation with a zoom link.

If there are any questions, please feel free to contact DEA Community Outreach Specialist, Eriko Farnsworth at (207) 749-6874 or Eriko.S.Farnsworth@usdoj.gov.
