ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Jersey Division Susan A. Gibson, Interim Officer in Charge of the Atlantic City Police Department Deputy Chief James A. Sarkos, and Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announce the arrest of a NYPD fugitive wanted for homicide.

Jameel Campbell, 42 of Bronx, N.Y., was wanted by the NYPD for the shooting death of an individual in broad daylight in the Bronx, N.Y. in September 2020. Early in February 2021, members of the DEA Liberty Mid-Atlantic HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas) Task Force in Atlantic City, N.J. received information that Cambpell was in the Atlantic City area and would be staying at the Golden Nugget Casino. After confirming Campbell’s location, members of the HIDTA Task Force, Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, and Atlantic City Police Department’s Special Investigations Section and SWAT Team located and arrested Campbell without incident.

“This investigation is a true example of law enforcement working together at all levels to successfully arrest a very dangerous individual,” said Special Agent in Charge Gibson. “During this operation all steps were taken to ensure the safety of the public, and because of the arrest of Jameel Campbell the community is much safer.”

“We are very pleased that we were able to assist the NYPD with the location of the person who is a suspect in a homicide which occurred in New York in September of 2020,” said Atlantic County Prosecutor Tyner.  “Effective law enforcement requires the collaboration and communication between agencies of all levels and that was demonstrated in this matter.  I want to thank all of our local, state, and federal partners for working alongside each other to capture the suspect.”

“We will continue to work together with all of our law enforcement partners to arrest those responsible for committing violent crimes,” said Interim Officer in Charge James Sarkos.  “Through this teamwork, we were able to remove a violent individual from our streets and hopefully brought some closure to the victim’s family.”

Campbell was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility and is awaiting extradition to New York.
